How to play the Em7 chord on guitar
Em7 needs a single finger, the middle on the 5th string. Everything else rings open.

Where the fingers go
- Middle finger (2) on the A (5th) string, fret 2.
- Let low E (6th), D (4th), G (3rd), B (2nd) and high E (1st) ring open.
Notes in the chord: E – B – D – G
Tips
- Strum all six strings and let them ring.
- A second common shape adds the ring finger on the 4th string, 2nd fret, and the pinky on the 2nd string, 3rd fret, for a fuller top.
- Em7 sits nicely between G and C, so G – Em7 – C – D sounds smoother than with Em.
