How to play the Cmaj7 chord on guitar
Cmaj7 is C with the index finger lifted: two fingers and a dreamy, open sound.
The 3D hands holding Cmaj7. Switch to 0.5× and turn the guitar to see each finger.
Where the fingers go
- Ring finger (3) on the A (5th) string, fret 3.
- Middle finger (2) on the D (4th) string, fret 2.
- Let G (3rd), B (2nd) and high E (1st) ring open.
- Do not play low E (6th).
Notes in the chord: C – E – G – B
Tips
- Let the open 2nd string ring: that B is the major 7th.
- Use it in place of C in slow pop, soul and bossa nova.
- Cmaj7 – Fmaj7 is a lush two-chord loop: the ring and middle fingers shift one string over, and the index joins on the 2nd string.
