Funk strumming (16th notes)
Funk guitar keeps the strumming hand moving in steady 16th notes while only a few strokes actually sound; the rest are ghost strokes and chops.
Live: Em, A, Em, A in the Funk (16ths) style. Slow it to 0.5× to follow the hand.
How to count it
↓↑↓↑✕↑↓↑↓↑↓↑✕↑↓↑
Count 1 e & a 2 e & a. The hand goes down on 1 and &, up on e and a. Accent beats with full strokes, chop on 2 and 4.
Meter 4/4, typical tempo around 96 BPM
Tips
- Mute with the fretting hand by lifting pressure, not with the palm.
- Practise at 70 BPM before speeding up.
- Play small chord shapes on the top strings, such as 9th or 7th chords.
