How to play Gm on guitar (and easier ways)
Gm is an Em-shape barre at the 3rd fret.
The 3D hands holding Gm. Switch to 0.5× and turn the guitar to see each finger.
Where the fingers go
- Index finger (1) lies across all six strings at fret 3.
- Ring finger (3) on the A (5th) string, fret 5.
- Pinky finger (4) on the D (4th) string, fret 5.
Notes in the chord: G – D – Bb
Tips
- It is the same shape as F#m and Fm, so the fingers already know it.
- Press firmly with the ring and pinky on the 5th and 4th strings; they carry the root and fifth.
- Use the 3-string version over a bass note when you only need the colour of Gm.

Practise Gm inside a real song
Paste the chords of any song that uses Gm, or snap a photo of the sheet. SnapFret plays it with the hands, and you can loop the change you find hardest.
